A Decisive Assault

The company spent some time debating the best course of action while they were waiting for Enoch Holliver to be able to see them and get his blessing. They sent some spies into Bloodsalt to see if there was an open market for moonstone and to get a feel for the Redblade Militia's security.

While out at the Seaside Market Ndege Greenlimb was approached by a wizened old Ironbone priest who mistook him for Drake Fordir. Ndege quickly explained that he wasn't Drake though he was part of the crew that killed him for betrayal at sea. The Ironbone quickly backed off. When Ndege returned to the office he got a lesson in playing his cards a little closer to his chest.

Much planning for the assault on the Redblade Militia ensued.

A couple of days later they headed into the Freeport Watch HQ in the Old City to talk to Enoch Holliver about their plans. They brought along their Ob-Lob captive (TC Uki translated for the thief). The discussion focused on the petty nature of the crimes and whether the Helusian Spirit wanted the Watch to take sides in a business dispute. Holliver also talked about the savings to the city by having the Redblades keep law and order in Bloodsalt. Finally Ndege convinced him that all the Watch would have to do is nothing and he signed off on their plan. Without signing anything.

Then they headed down to the Merchants' Guild where they tried to get some soldiers to go in and help them kick ass. In talking with the self-aggrandizing Torsten Roth he told them he could get them funds if they would do the attack in his name, so it would help him garner some political power. They agreed when they realized that they could also blame him if everything went pear-shaped.

So they got equipment together including loads of flammable things and ladders. The plan split their forces into two groups. One group, led by Tank Tursel and Zov, got a Scurvytown mob and a mob's worth of weapons with Roth's money. They set upon Krom's Throat as a distraction that would draw most of the defenders from the barracks. When TC Uki spotted a bunch of defenders leaving, he sent a signal back to the other third of the men (all Helusian Spirit sailors and the rest of the command crew) and then tried to sneak into the barracks with a poorly judged ventriloquism act.

The barracks had a dozen men on its walls who were watching the sky, but when Karis arrived and crossed the killing field between the shanties and the wall one of the guards spotted him. And they spotted Calebain flying overhead. Calebain started prepping his new spell while guards shot at him and at Karis. TC ran to the front to open the gate with the Rusting Staff. Karis flung one of the clay firebombs up onto the roof of the barracks' kitchen starting a fire as electrified ghosts started pestering the guards who ran screaming until rallied by an Ob-Lob on the wall.

Calebain then scooped up Karis and dropped him on the roof while being shot at through his wind wall. After a few moments his spell was dropped by someone he couldn't see and his left wing was severely injured. Karis started ripping up the roof and dumping firebombs inside and Ndege led his archers up onto the wall to take care of any remaining guards. two groups fled, one surrendering to TC and his band of 40 soldiers, while the other bolted into the building. By that point there was no one left outside.

A messenger also arrived from the south saying that the assault there had gone wonderfully, Krom's Throat had been burned to the ground, and they had prisoners. Tank would be up at the barracks soon.

TC Uki came to rust the hinges off the barracks door to get inside and begin slaughtering but he was counterspelled by someone inside. From inside came a voice asking in Imperial for terms of surrender. The Company dithered for a while, finally demanding all the leaders outside without any weapons. They surrendered with the caveat that they'd be given to the proper authorities. Once outside Calebain gave the Ob-Lob he figured was the mage the stink-eye. Karis noticed that one of the leaders was Rakabutaketutata, the Mitotanitututami they'd been dealing with after killing Kitolakita on the captured ship.

The plot thickened.
