Background
Born to a Uldish merchant father and a mother who died during childbirth Karis was orphaned when the leader of their caravan sold them out to brigands who murdered the entire group. He grew up in the wilds (being the only one who escaped) where he rescued a ferocious wild dog he named Grell from a hunter's trap. The two eventually made it to the outskirts of an Uldish town surviving on wits and petty theft.
On The Helusian Spirit he was the savage tough who threw a bunch of knives and became pretty good with a sword, if not with words. He was briefly sort of involved with Kalama until they both suffered losses and he was disgusted how she put a sword at the same level as his dog/best friend.
Karis died in a duel with Ulkinifo, a member of the Redblade Militia who he also killed.
