Darrezan's Journal

The reason Kalama is looking for the Rain Tiger's Claw is that she found the journal of an Uldish scholar known as Darrezan. He studied the Rangka ruins and knew more than almost anyone else about their vanished empire. The Rangka empire was around the chin of Heluso. She would have kept it as an interesting source of things to go looking for, but when she heard of a group that was looking for this specific artifact she figured she was on her way to an exclusive.

In Darrezan's journal are several things relating to the Rain Tiger's Claw.

  • Rana Mor was once dedicated to the Rangka Thunder King, but in the decline of their empire, after contact with the Empire it became more associated with Setekesh, a minor Pahar fertility deity.
  • The jungles west of Coral Bay are the territory of the Banda "a degenerate tribe" descended from the Rangka. Darrezan describes them as headhunters and death worshippers.
  • Rana Mor's central temple guarded the burial crypts of the Rangka kings. Six kings are interred there: Angket Re, Angkien Mu, Suoddhara, Vrimu Atka, Prayasiddhra, and Bhuondisva the Seer King.
  • Bhuondisva was a powerful wizard, who defeated a demonic incursion from the west. The Rain Tiger's Claw was his prized possession.
  • Funerary processions were occasions of great secrecy. The priests of Rana Mor never allowed any outsiders to enter the central tower.
  • Dangerous glyphs ward the most important Rangka tombs. "Bhuondisva's crypt barred by glyphs ke and indhu?" reads a note in this section.
